I went to another concert at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco last night. I wanted to go to the Band of Horses concert at the Fillmore but alas it was sold out. K-Fan’s favorite venue is Cafe Du Nord and he wanted to check it out. It happened to be the 7th Annual Turkey Trot which showcases some Americana bands.
And yes, I am well aware of the limitations of my camera phone. When K-Fan sends me his more high-res photos, I’ll post them…
Wayward Sway
Wayward Sway is a sort of folk band with many banjos. This band was my favorite from the rest, with lively music. It was funny because there was a this huge space between the stage and the first row that lead singer Scott Pettersen had to tell the crowd to move forward.
Jeffrey Halford & The Healers
Jeffrey Halford & The Healers was a band more classic/traditionally rock and Americana oriented. It’s a San Francisco band, and they were enjoyable.
Rancho Deluxe
Rancho Deluxe was surprisingly good. The band definitely had a country twang, and everyone seemed to really enjoy them as evidenced by all the dancing upfront.
There was a fourth band Kemo Sabe, but it was already 11:30 PM and we were dead tired. Their MySpace page says the band plays acoustic punk/zouk. I’ve never heard of zouk before, but it is rhythmic French music… Hmmm…
____
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim solidified their chances at winning the 2008 AL West division title by signing Torii Hunter to a five year, $90 million contract. I didn’t see that one coming. Hunter seems somewhat disappointed that the Minnesota Twins didn’t try harder to sign him, but that’s the reality of small-to mid market team like the Twins. The extra money should allow the team to sign extensions to Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan, and hopefully Johan Santana.
