Barry Zito earned his first victory in a tumultuous 2008 season with an 8-2 victory over the NL East leading Florida Marlins Friday night (5.23.08).

Zito pitched 6.1 innings with 5 SOs and 4 BBs, whiling giving up a run on three hits. The most important figure to look at other than the one earned run is the 5 SOs, since many have talked about Zito’s declining stuff as the reason for his huge drop-off from his Oakland Athletics days. The $126 million pitcher is now 1-8. Looking at his previous starts, this might be the beginning of a streak.
