Anna Chakvetadze lost to Venus Williams 0-6, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6 at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Rome International in Rome on May 6, 2009.
This is big news. Williams clearly struggled against the long-slumping Chakvetadze, and this is the first tournament of the year in which Chakvetadze has advanced past the second round. The hard court season hasn’t been kind to the pretty Russian, but hopefully Chakvetadze can use this little momentum to her advantage for the French Open.
