Oakland Athletics shortstop Marcus Semien has already committed sixteen errors so far this season–through 42 games. He had sixteen errors for all of last season.
Some caveats:
- He only played 64 games last season.
- He only played second base and third base last season, so shortstop is still a relatively new defensive position for him although he did play shortstop for three games in 2013.
- He is batting .309 with an OPS of .849 (as of tonight), which somewhat makes up for his defensive lapses.
If the A’s want to get back into contention in the American League West, the team is going to have to button up all of the defensive lapses and that certainly starts with one of the most crucial positions: SS.
UPDATE: Edited for grammar.
