Symbiosis Gathering, a large multiday arts, music and spiritual gathering, is less than a week away from its official return to California after a four year absence. Countless festivalgoers will experience four days and four nights of spiritual awakening and straight-up fun at Woodward Reservoir Regional Park near Oakdale in Stanislaus County on September 22-25, 2016.
Music is the most notable feature of SG16, and organizers recently released the music schedule with an offering that skews heavily toward electronic music as evidenced by three separate stages (or perhaps tents) for almost around-the-clock beats from the sounds of Birds of Paradise, Erothyme and Pan-Pot. (As an aside, those camping near the grounds are highly encouraged to bring ear plugs for a better night’s sleep.)
World folk is the second biggest showing with Israeli female trio A-Wa and cabaret act Sour Mash Hug Band. What organizers classify as indie/pop fusion is notable for how few acts there are, including a misclassified FKJ and Gaslamp Killer. Florida indie rock trio Hundred Waters and Los Angeles-based quartet Warpaint are probably the closest acts that fit along with London-based electropop duo Oh Wonder.
Gramatik and Beats Antique close out Friday night’s main stage. Santigold and RL Grime close out Saturday night. And FKA Twigs ends the official festivities close to midnight Sunday.
